Police nab chief for possessing ‘dangerous weapon’

Police in Malawi’s Eastern district of Balaka have arrested Group Village Headman Mwenye whose real name is Harold Mwenye for being found in possession of 32 round live ammunitions.

Police arrested the 58-year-old traditional leader after being tipped that he was keeping live ammunitions.

“Upon searching his house, Police recovered 32 rounds of live ammunitions and one empty cartilage,” says sub inspector Joseph Sauka, Police publicist for the district.

Sauka says Police has meanwhile sent the ammunitions to National Police Headquarters for certification.

Group Village Headman Harold Mwenye comes from Mwenye village, Traditional Authority Phambala in Ntcheu district.

“The suspect is expected to appear before court soon where he will answer a case of being found in possession of dangerous weapon,” says Sauka.
