PP accepts Koloviko resignation: ‘All not well in Joyce Banda led party’

People’s Party (PP) has accepted the recent resignation within its rank and file of National Deputy Director of Women, Ettinor Koloviko.

Koloviko, formerly of UDF who at one time served as a Blantyre North Parliamentarian, resigned and withdrew her membership on Monday, saying “things are not going well” in the PP which is led by former president Joyce Banda.

PP spokesperson, Ken Msonda, said the party had accepted her resignation.

“We do not have any problem with her decision. This is a party that respects democratic values, including the right to opinion and the right to association. Much as we will miss her, we respect her decision and wish her well wherever she is going.

“Neither has she committed a crime nor broken any law, it is her constitutional right. She has actually told us that she wants to take a break from active politics,” Msonda said.

Koloviko becomes the fourth person in the PP’s National Executive Committee (Nec) to resign from the party in a space of 30 days. PP vice-president for the Northern Region, Harry Mkandawire, also resigned from his position but said he remains an ordinary member of the party.

The party’s presidential running-mate during the May 2014 elections, Sosten Gwengwe, also said he was moving out of the PP to rejoin MCP and the party’s vice-president for the Southern Region, Brown Mpinganjira, also resigned and is rumoured to be seeking entry in ruling DPP or President Peter Mutharika to consider giving him apolitical job.

I have observed with keen interest all political resignations. Each has connection with fortune and money. Our so called politicians can not wait to harvest where they planted. They are not guided by principles but money. No wonder Malawi will remain poor for many years to come. This is the root of cashgate!

She is one of the Political prostitutes we have in Malawi. People without substance move from one party to another. It is not surprising. All the NEC members who have resigned from PP are fortune-seekers. Over the years, they have moved from Party A to party B. They can not add any value to our political system in Malawi.
