PP evicted from headquarters in Blantyre

Malawi former ruling People’s Party (PP) has been evicted from their offices in Sunny Side, in Blantyre by government.

PP spokesman Ken Msonda confirmed the eviction, saying it was “politically motivated” as he party did everything to occupy the building according to procedure and law.

“We followed all procedures and law including paying bills to occupy this building. The eviction is political,” said Msonda.

He accuse government of planning to “kill PP” .

The headquarters building used to be from Blantyre City council’s house meant for the chief executive officer.

As moving in circles, the same house was also used by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) when it was in government and accumulated high bills meant for the city council which till now have not been settled.

Blantyre city council insiders complained that the city house has now been turned into a political party property.

“The house is supposed to be used by the chief executive officer but he since he came to the city council he has let it out to political parties. DPP used it as its regional office for the south. And then the PP headquarters. The normal thing is that the occupants should pay rentals to the city,” the official said.
