It’s opinions like this one, well written and pointed, BUT ridiculous in their lack of balance and fairness that drive many Malawians crazy. The fact that an opinion is well written cannot hide or plug the huge holes it opens up. Sure, it’s good to have accountability; but the quest should not be selective. And man, you’ve gotta question the mechanics in the process, like the straight accusatory stances taken by some of the (Opposition) politicians, and their tactics in the process. As Kumbire has suggested, let us together with the maize issue follow the jetgate. And I would like Thom and the Time Group feed us with whatever they have in their records on the jet. Majority of the people who took part in the jet sale are still with us in this country. Call and interview them on your unbiased TVs so that Malawians know from the horse’s mouth what really happened to the proceeds of our jet. Brian Banda boasts to give us neutral coverage on Malawi issues, let him take this issue up on his Time Group TV.
You are right Thom Chiumia. MPs should now invite Joyce Banda, Mkwezalamba, and Secretary to the treasury to explain the sale of the Presidential Jet, the cancelling of contracts at Bingu conference centre, and the repainting of the same jet and rehiring by the PP Government. Ralph Kasambara, Lutepo and Mphwiyo should come and explain how the cashgate issue started and how it was unearthed. The death of Kamanya should also be investigated. Absolutely correct. The corruption in Malawi is endemic and the rot goes all the way to the top. The blatant evedince against top officials is ignored and as you say, the ACB does nothing. Its no wonder the donor community are fed up with Malawi!
