Owner and Director Premier Bus Company (PBC), one of the leading establishments in transport circles, Reason Chitonya has died.

He died on December 24 at Mwaiwathu Private Hospital in Blantyre.

Chitonya’s untimely death shocked a lot of individuals as well as organizations including Malawi’s media.

Blantyre Press Club (BPC) expressed deep shock over the death of Chitonya, saying he was a true partner and sponsor of the Club.

In November this year, the Company supported and provided the Club with a premier coach to transport its members to its annual general meeting in Mangochi.

“We have lost a true partner and sponsor of the Club. Premier buses gave us a bus and was more than willing to give us a bus to our annual retreat at Mandevu farm next week. His death is a blow to the media fraternity, especially to Blantyre Press Club.

“Mr Chitonya was always ready to work with the media, regardless of which media house the reporter comes from.  As a club, we believe business virus will emulate the example set by Mr Chitonya who would not look at who to support in fulfilling its corporate social responsibility,” said BPC President Blessings Kanache in a statement.

Former broadcaster Mike Anold Mbalale (now a teacher at HHI Seconday School) said late Chitonya was a “selfless man” and also a “pillar at Blantyre Baptist Church”.

Mr. Chitonya practiced Christian values to his life and businesses. He is now in the eternal presence of the Master he loved so much. May the Lord comfort Patricia and the children and all the Mwanyongo and Chitonya families.
