Prophet Bushiri feeds 10 000 households in Malawi: Resumes ‘feed the hungry’ charity, govt appreciative and supportive
At least 10 000 hungry households in Dedza, Ntcheu and Mzimba districts are smiling as Prophet Shepherd Bushiri has returned with his first phase of this years’ annual national maize distribution exercise.
The first exercise, under the first phase, was held in Dedza and Ntcheu districts on Wednesday. The second exercise continue in Mchengautuwa, Mzuzu on Thursday and Friday in Euthini, Mzimba.
With 10 000 households, it means more than 50 000 Malawians in the three districts will now put food on the table after months of going hungry due to climate changed induced floods and dry spells that hit the country and destroyed the crops.
The Malawi Vulnerability Assessment Committee (Mvac) revealed last year that in the current 2016/17 consumption season at least 8.5 million Malawi will go hungry.
The Mvac resulted in President Peter Mutharika calling for local and international support to the hungry.
Speaking while launching the maize distribution exercise at the court of Traditional Authority Kaphuka in Dedza—100 kilometres from Linthipe 1 bridge—Prophet Bushiri, popularly referred to as Major 1, said he came to show, not tell, what God teaches about love.
The billionaire Prophet—who flew from his base in Pretoria, South Africa just to participate in the exercise—underlined that it does not make sense to preach love on the pulpit without showing how it looks.
“Through the exercise, I am only fulfilling the scripture that said those who have should always share with those who don’t because that is the definition of love,” he said.
Major 1 added that it has always been his wish to ensure that every Malawian is happy and has food on the table. He, thus, vowed that nothing will stop him to reach to every Malawian who is struggling.
This year’s distribution has been spectacular because government has been quite appreciative and supportive, a move Prophet Bushiri told the media that he is great about.
Major 1 said that he doesn’t not provide the maize by looking at religious, political and tribal colours. He said his criteria is the level of vulnerability.
In Dedza, the district commissioner, through his representative, hailed the exercise, which was well managed by the Malawi Police Service (MPS), as a milestone in responding to the disasters.
Together with Dedza district disaster management officer, the representative called on Major 1 to scale up the exercise so that even more are touched.
In Dedza alone, at least 1.5 million households received the relief item, something which prompted the ecstatic Senior Chief Kaphuka to salute Major 1 as a true son of Malawi with a heart of serving his people.
The chief called on other Malawians, within and abroad, to embrace Bushiri’s spirit of giving to those who are in pain due to disasters.
His sentiments were also echoed by Senior Chief Kwataine whose area welcome Major 1 with the glitz and glamour of a red carpet.
Kwataine hailed the Prophet spirit, saying Malawians should embrace Major 1 as its owen because he is a Man of God with the heart of the people.
This first phase of the exercise—which involves Dedza, Ntcheu and Mzimba districts—is only part of Prophet Bushiri’s annual maize distribution exercise in the country.
The second phase of the exercise, earmarked for next week, will target Southern Region districts.

I personally say ‘thank you for the food’ and the spirit of sharing you have shown. Let the haves and have-nots learn to share.
On a different note, this climate change will continually make us beggars. As a country, it requires that we find some lasting solutions to this problem. The abandoned Greenbelt initiative would have helped us a lot. We have bright ideas but implementation is a great challenge.
