Prophet Bushiri springs back to charity endeavours in Malawi: K1bn maize to be distributed to feed the hungry

After suspending his humanitarian pursuits for close to four months due to what he labelled ‘political obstacles,’ leader and founder of the Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) church, Prophet Shepherd Bushiri, will be back to his humanitarian work after securing more maize worthy MK1 billion to distribute to the hungry across Malawi, Nyasa Times can reveal.

This comes in the midst of reports that most Malawians are already facing hunger two months from the traditional heparvesting season. Tesearch analysts have attributed low yieds to isolated disasters of floods and drought coupled with the country’s collapsing economy.

Speaking to Nyasa Times through a phone interview, from his office in Sandton at the World Trade Centre, Bushiri said it’s time to leave the past behind and past the challenges in order to do what is of beneficial to Malawians.

“I wish I could be angry for what I faced during the last time I tried to help Malawi or feel bad about different things written about me by some people to discredit my name, but I realise that being a man of God is not just a title. It’s a responsibility that goes beyond standing on the pulpit and feed people with the word of God. I love my country and I will forever love it. We may be of different faith but we are all Malawians at the end of the day. We have the same origin and that’s our country Malawi,” explained Bushiri.

“I have secured a lot of maize from outside Malawi and I am prepared to pump in more money to make sure that our hungry parents and relatives in remote areas benefit from this charity work,” he said.

Speaking on whether he is afraid to be attacked more by government machinery, Bushiri spoke calmly that he believes it is in the interest of the same government machinery that people who are being governed are a happy people so as to reflect that happiness towards the leadership.

He further shared that he believes he has already gone through the worse and what remains will not be any painful from what he has suffered already.

“I am of the strong view that if the said government machinery is working in the best interest of the government itself, it will find no problems with people trying to afford happiness in the people subject to its leadership. When the governed are happy, it is expected of the government to feel happy.

“ Unfortunately, reality seems to speak otherwise in Malawi. But I am a man of God and I realize myself as such. I have been through a lot of things already and I know I will be in even more problems. What is it that hasn’t been said about me, from cashgate connection to albino killings and conspires to introduce what they call a joint party with PP and recently, rumours about the blood of Jesus and the talk about my wife being pregnant for a second Jesus. All these have been said, those who chose to believe believed and those who were more reasonable trashed them,” narreted the man of God.

“I am sure that by now most Malawians know who the enemy is. We are faced by the goliath of hunger, diseases and poverty. Those with reason are trying hard to fight against these enemies while unreasonable people are spending their nights fighting people who have stood tall to make Malawi a better nation. I am not afraid to come back to Malawi. If government makes a room for me that we work together, I will be a very happy citizen,” he said.

In the months of February and March, Bushiri donated thousands of bags of maize worth millions of kwachas in the districts of Zomba, Lilongwe, Ntcheu, Dowa, Karonga, Mzuzu and Mchinji.

His humanitarian project, looked at by many as a Beacon of Hope was allegedly halted by political forces. It is alleged that the political elites considered the man of God’s gesture to the poor to be a way of preparing himself towards 2019 presidential elections.

Bushiri has constantly refuted this claim saying he has no political ambition.

There are protocols which are followed for someone to be allowed to distribute relief items. Everything goes through government machinery. So Bushiri follow those protocols to avoid embarrassment!

“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”

For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.” We hear that some among you are idle and disruptive. They are not busy; they are busybodies. Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the food they eat.

Go Bushiri go, whoever feels pain is his/her own problem, giving out is the attribute of God whosoever fights against a giver fights against God no matter how weak that person is, so be careful, can any one withstand the wrath of God? certainly never!!!!!
