Mr Sibande, if, as you say, ‘colonialism did more good for Africans than harm’ and ‘everything that Africa is proud of today occurred during colonialism’, why do you conclude that ‘only those countries that choose to be really independent and divorce themselves from foreign influences . . . progress and prosper’? Your conclusion is not justified by your premises.

The subject here is Africa’s lack of advancement economically and politically.Lyson Sibande has laid down his analysis fairly well,but did not explain fully the reasons why that has happened and it seems to me that he lays blames on former colonial and imperialist powers to a larger extent.However, Martin Meredith has written a narrative history of novel Africa ,devoid of pseudo intellectual frills,gender discourse or post colonial angst.He takes each of the larger African countries and tells you what happened there after independence in chronological order.It is a joy.Africa’s rulers will hate it.
