Return of mind games as Nomads face Tigers in Blantyre derby: Malawi TNM Super League

Saturday’s TNM Super League encounter between Mighty Wanderers and Azam Tigers to be staged at the giant Kamuzu Stadium, promises an outstanding feast of football.

The Kau-Kau boys fresh from their Standard Bank Cup final  appearance ve vowed to make life tough for the Nomads.

The Nomads coach Gerald Phiri has however, described all that big talk from the Kau-Kau boys as wishful thinking and he swore that his charges would go flatout to tame the Tigers.

“There is only one thing that we are geared for and that is to collect maximum points. My boys are in shape and can’t wait for the game. We have put everything in apple-pie order, and Tigers should brace for a tough match,” said Phiri.

He also urged the Nomads fans to turn up in their large numbers to give their team the vociferous support.

“I would urge our fans to come and cheer their team and the boys will be counting on them,” he said.

However, Tigers team manager Steven Madeira said the Nomads were afraid of their own shadows.

“I don’t give them a chance . We will trim them to their size . Morale is very high and the boys have vowed to die with their boots on,” Madeira said.

Inspirational captain Malumbo Gondwe is expected to be at the hub of Tigers best moves. His passing, those swift turns, vision and touch are likely to be evident on Saturday.

But he is likely to face stiff opposition from stocky counterpart Jacob Ngwira in defensive abilities and tackling prowess.

Gondwe is expected to be ably assisted by diminutive Nafe Miasa who is also expected to orchestrate play for Tigers with racy winger Lawrence Milanzi and Benard Harawa running up and down the flanks.

In the middle of the pack, the Nomads also has Cuthbert Sinetre while Mike Kaziputa and will operate from the left flank.

The Nomads back four is based around the solid and experienced figures of Wongani Kaipa, Kondwani Lufeyo, Stewart Gerald and Likoswe to check the deadly striking force of Diverson Chilemba.

The Kau-Kau boys towering centre back Boston Kabango and companywill have to be at their usual best to stop ever green Khumbo Ng’ambi, who was responsible in destroying Mafco last week with three two goals from him.
