Rev Mhango’s Kanengo CCAP pray under heavy police guard

Congregation at Livingstonia synod breakaway church, Kanengo CCAP on Sunday prayed under heavy police guard following a High Court ruling that vested the church building land in the hands of the Livingstonia synod trustees.

The presence of the armed police in camouflage battle gear however did not deter the congregation praising and singing led by Livingstonia synod rebel cleric Chimwemwe Mhango.

Kanengo CCAP session clerk Hebron Banda said the church was surprised with the presence of police since Thursday.

“We are children of God who love peace. Since Thursday, we are surprised to see these armed men, what is happening? Why are they here? Who is sending them?” asked Banda rhetorically.

He said the congregation held the prayer services peacefully.

“Reverend Chimwemwe Mhango conducted the prayers beautifully, very well indeed, we were very jovial, the Holy Spirit came down and was with us,” he said.

He asked the congregation to be calm even after losing the High Court case to Livingstonia synod and the heavy presence of police.

Lawyer for the congregation Zeros Matumba said he would be appealing against the High Court ruling that went in favour of Livingstonia synod, describing it as lacking.

“The congregation is not happy, we need clarification through the appeal,” said Matumba.

He said he was working to obtain a stay against the High Court ruling that ordered all bank accounts and the Kanengo CCAP land be surrendered to Livingstonia synod.

The wrangle between Livingstonia synod and Kanengo CCAP started after Mhango was transferred to Euthini CCAP, a transfer Mhango rejected and the synod subsequently fired him from the Livingstonia church of the CCAP for insubordination.

The presence of Livingstonia synod in Nkhoma CCAP also caused a storm as there is s written memorandum of understanding of all the CCAP synods including the Blantyre synod not to encroach on each other’s territory but money opportunities in the capital city are tempting the men of God.
