Shun sectarianism, urges Mutharika: Meets Nkhoma Synod CCAP clerics
Malawi President Peter Mutharika on Wednesday met clerics from CCAP Nkhoma Synod in in Lilongwe at the official Kamuzu Palace where he urged the churchmen to rise above sectarian differences and strengthen peace and love their country and if necessary, sacrifice for it so as to foster prosperity.
He said Malawians needed each other to foster prosperity, regardless of tribe, political or religious backgrounds.
“Let us continue to work together for the good of the people that God has entrusted to us as leaders,” said Mutharika.
He pledged continued safeguarding of freedom of worship as enshirened in the constitution.
“I do recognize that religious freedom is not only a precious gift from God for those who have faith, it is a gift for each person because it is the basic guarantee of our expression of freedom.”
The Malawi leader further said that true religious freedom shuns temptation of intolerance and secretarianism and promotes attitudes of respect and constructive dialogue.
“We cannot deny that intolerance towards those with different religious convictions is a particularly insidious enemy, one which today is being witnessed in various areas around the world,” Mutharika said.
Mutharika further took his time to thank the Nkhoma Synod on the role they play in the development of the country.
“I want to assure you of my government’s appreciation to the role that is being played by the Nkhoma Synod in the development of this country through education, health and social welfare among others,” he said.
On his part Moderator of Nkhoma Synod Rev. Dr. Chatha Msangaambe said as clergy they work with the government of the day.
“We would like to assure you Your Excellence that as Nkhoma Synod, we are keen to work with the government of the day.
“We will continue to pray our prophetic as well as our citizenry role. Be free to approach us on any issue that you would want to understand clearly from us as a church,” the Moderator said.

The church and the government must work together
Freedom of worship is an invention of satan. God intended that the church be ONE, HOLY, CATHOLIC, & APOSTOLIC. In Mw the ccap has three rival autonomous camps who compete against each other in establishing universities, radios and prominence. A church of Elders with no clear leadership structure. A church that promotes disunity by firstly disuniting itself. I wish the leaders consulted scripture once more and make the church one

Please do not talk of Livingstonia Synod as secretarian. Mind you these are the people who built Malawi. Go to your history. The first primary school in Nyasalandi was at Livingstonia. fIRST secondary SCHOOL (BSS) organized and set up by Livingstonia, Anglican and Blantyre Missions. The first printing press at Livingstonia which was later transferred to HHI to be Hetherwick Press to supply Mandala etc. My grand father was then sent to join the party that set up Govt Printer in Zomba. and lastly went over to open the Govt Printer in Lusaka..
