One of major rules of the game when doing business in Malawi: “Do business with Malawi Government at your own peril”. Ask businesses around, businesses who have never been paid for years on after doing business with the most frustrating entity – the Government. I will never ever do a business with Malawi Government even if the potential contract is mouth watering and hard to refuse.

This project stinks of corruption everywhere. First of all, if Khato is just a contractor, why is he so agitated? He has not done any work so why can’t he just pull out? A tail cannot wag the dog. But no, he can’t oull the out because he knows this is a grand scheme to rip off Malawians. Where were was the call for proposals for this project advertised? Who were the other bidders? If there are no feasibility studies and engineering design documents as Khato confesss, how was the figure of K400 billion calculated? I think Gondwe is trying… Read more »

Stay focused until all approvals are obta8ned from the supposedly IMF and World Bank. We are one year away to the most contested general (tripartite) elections, its expected therefore that every move by DPP will be a calculated one. The water project has left a sour test to the urban populace hence the hesitance in signing off the project by Gondwe whose political life is under scrutiny with the K4 billion debacle. Khato Civils is just caught up in the crossfire.

Is it not the same gentleman, Simbi who when he was bringing his heavy equipment into the country from South Africa, said he does not care what CSO may say or do as long as he has agreed with the right people in government he would continue what he ha decided to do. Wayiwona mochedwa. Ndimbava izi.
Since Environmental Impact Assessment issues started, it was a must thst World Bank and IMF would never fund a project where EIA had not been done and approved. Amafuna amudyere kuti zikamakanika atamuponda kale. Timawona kulubwalubwa.

are we sovereign. This money if borrowed will be paid back by Malawians not IMF. Why do they want to dictate us. I now join those people who said Gondwe is too old. The IMF is not happy that this project has gone to a Malawian because they will not be able to steal from us as they always do with other projects. If anything, let them pay you for the lost time and anticipated profits and money spent and all other overheads and give the deal to their preferred contractors.
