Soldier killed in road accident identified
A 37 -year-old soldier who was killed when when the vehicle they were travelling in, an Iveco Bus overturned following a left rear tyre burst at Nkhande along the Dedza- Ntcheu M1 Road on Monday, has been named.
Staff Sergeant Bruno Nkhaya, 37, from Likuni Village in the area of Chief Malili in Lilongwe died due to internal injuries according to postmortem conducted at Ntcheu District Hospital.
Ntcheu Police Public Relations Officer, Gift Matewere said the bus registration number MDF 1455 had eight Malawi Defence Force (MDF) officers who were travelling to Blantyre for official duties.
“Upon arrival at Nkhande, the left rear tyre of the bus got burst and the vehicle went off the road before overturning several times,” said Matewere.
His family described his death as a “huge shock” and said it has “left a gap that cannot be filled”.
While army spokesman said it has been a “tragic loss”.
