Standard Bank launches deposit-taking ATMs in Malawi
In its quest to continue moving its customers forward Standard Bank has launched the deposit-taking Auto Teller Machine (ATM) services in Malawi.
Standard Bank Head of Marketing Thokozani Unyolo said the launch of deposit-taking ATMs is in line with the bank’s continued improvements in digital banking capabilities in response to increasing customer preferences.
“Provision of innovative solutions has become the new world order in banking. In recent years, Standard Bank has been tuning up its technology-based services with a view to providing convenience for customers.
“Introduction of deposit-taking ATMs is one of the innovations that the bank is bringing in 2015 as we seek to take over the digital banking space, and move our customers forward,” she said.
Unyolo said the new service is available at existing ATM points across 11 strategic branches of the bank in Malawi. These are Mzuzu, Blantyre, Lilongwe, Capital City, Limbe and Zomba. Customers must use their personal ATM cards in order to interact with deposit-enabled ATMs.
“With deposit-taking ATMs, we are giving our customers the opportunity to transact at anytime without worrying about day banking hours or queuing for a teller. The service is easy, fast and secured by our recently refurbished ATM cubicles,” she said.

Even in Malawi, Standard Bank isn’t the first bank to bring in such ATMs because MSB did so two years ago!
And years back NBS was rumoured to be planning such facilities but I don’t know whether they were ever implemented.

I just dont understand what some folks here are up against this story. Atm which allows deposit are new in Malawi but certainly not new in regional countries. Dont give credit either to Standard Bank, this is an old innovation just like Television station came late in Malawi. used ATM for deposit first time some 5 years ago.
