Steve Chimombo was in my class at Chancellor College in the late sixties, and we stayed in touch, off and on, throughout his life. (Thanks to his wife Moira for mastering the mysteries of e-mailery.) I last saw him during a brief trip to Malawi in 1999.
I have very fond memories of a lively mind: always asking good questions, always caring deeply about language and about his beloved Malawi.
I hope all his work gets reprinted. He will be sorely missed.

This is just the nature of the people Mw must be proud of unlike these foolish politicians. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
