Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Presidential candidate Peter Mutharika on Friday lashed out at his critics over his married life when he paraded two of his daughters during whistle stop campaign meetings, saying he has been vindicated that he has children.
Mutharika’s married life has remained a controversial issue with Malawians questioning whether the DPP torch bearer indeed has children or not after they failed to attend some of the most notable events such as the death of their uncle Bingu and his wedding to Callista.
He recently made the tactical error of denying to the online newspaper Malawi Voice that he was gay. That succeeded only in increasing speculation.
But on Thursday Mutharika’s two daughters- Moyenda and Monica- arrived in through Kamuzu International Airport in the capital, Lilongwe ahead of the Tuesday’s crucial vote. They will not vote as they are not registered.
Speaking in Blantyre, Mutharika said he was “proud” to be accompanied by his “two beautiful daughters”.
“This vindicates that I have children. You have seen them for yourselves so those who nonsense should shut up,” he said.
Mutharika- who was married for 30 years before his Caribean wife succumbed to cancer- has three grown up children, the two daughters and a man who are all working in US. One of them, Moyenda, is a practicing attorney.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
