Peter is indeed old to lead DPP , let alone lead it to victory. But what surprises me is that you think castigating Peter and trumpeting Chilima’s candidacy is democratic. No, it is not. What is democratic is to state that DPP must open up to whoever wants to run provided they are younger, energetic and have a proper agenda for the country.
If truth be told, all of you are writing and making noise on behalf of Chilima. What that tells me is that Chilima is a dumb coward who can’t make those pronouncements himself.
Apparently DPP proposal dictates that interested individuals can only raise their hands for party leadership positions at the convention. Canvassing of votes can only happen at the convention just before the actual voting process. Campaigning outside such structures is prohibited and discouraged, at all costs (for a good reason). I am sure Chilima is lobbying quietly in the dark corridors of the country. Let’s see whàt happens at the party convention. My observation is that almost all those that have talked much about this issue in support of Callister not the Vice President, people are mentioning about him just to drug him into this mess to make him miss the Presidency and kill his political carrier.
What can a frustrated person like Allan Ntata tell Malawians?
Peter Mutharika (weak and has failed the party); Salulos Chilima (weak and will certainly fail the party) = death of DPP. The shape of Malawi politics will begin to change from 2019 and political parties will have to evolve to the new order.
No new political order in 2019 because the political players across the political isle are all tainted by self-interest rather the desire to change Malawi. All those making noise at the moment about Callista and Chlima are frustrated that they are not eating now and think their support for a ‘New Order’ will enable them get positions next year.
Stomach and patronage (party and govt) politics will begin to disappear from 2019. It may mean that all old-thinking politicians will begin to disappear one by one or their respective parties will die one by one. Either way, politics of the stomach/patronage will be a thing of the past. The current breed of politicians won’t make it in the new dispensation.
Ntata, it seems you are writing about your past. We haven’t forgotten that you were Bingu’s aid and Callista is your friend.
