Teras rescues Poly engineering student with K0.5million donation
Aaron Chikanga, 20, a first year Engineering Student at the Polytechnic has been rescued by Teras Health Care who donated a cheque worth K500 000 to the needy student through Blantyre press Club.
According to Chikanga who lives in Bangwe in Blantyre, he has been struggling to pay his tuition fees and has been walking on foot to the Polytechnic due to lack of bus fare.
Receiving the donation on Thursday in Blantyre, Chikanga expressed gratitude for the financial support saying the move will help address some of the challenges he faces in pursuing his studies.
“I am so happy and I can now see a bright future. Earlier, I lost hope of furthering my education. I was not registered yet at school since I had not paid the needed tuition fee for registration,” smiled Chikanga.
In her remarks, Teras Managing Director Shalice Amos said her organization knew of Chikanga’s situation through Blantyre Press Club – a Journalist Grouping and decided to come to his rescue with a one year tuition fee package so that his education should not be disturbed.
“As Teras, it is not that we have a lot of money, but we saw the need to promote education and help young boys like Aaron because his school records show that he is a brilliant student.
“Many boys at his age are busy spoiling themselves with bad habits but this boy is exceptional and determined to pursue his education,” she said.
Amos appealed to other well wishers to emulate their move saying their contribution is just for one academic year but his engineering programme is for five years.
On his part, Blantyre Press Club President Blessings Kanache commended the organisation for the good gesture adding that the club could not have met the boy’s needs.
“This shows that Teras has people’s needs at heart. I therefore urge other companies to emulate the good deeds that benefit others in the midst of tough economic situation,” said Kanache.
Teras Health Care brought on the market a health concoction pampered to heal; cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure and many other ailments.
