Thugs break into Dausi’s residence: Steals cash and valuables from Malawi chief spy

A gang of daring armed thugs Thursday night broke into the heavily guarded official residence of Malawi’s flamboyant and self-styled chief spy Nicholas Dausi in Area 10 in the capital, Lilongwe and decamped with millions of cash and personal valuables, Nyasa Times can exclusively reveal.

Malawi’s head of intelligence agency, Dausi’s family live in the state-owned house   where the bandits barged in the early hours of Friday, August 12th, 2016 and robbed him some his valuable articles, state security sources have disclosed to Nyasa Times.

“The thugs jumped the gate, got inside and looted some cash,  personal and official valuables,” said a highly placed source privy to the investigations.

It is not clear if Dausi was at the premises or not when his house was being ransacked by the hoodlums.

Nyasa Times has however learnt that after the incident, Dausi immediately phoned the Malawi Police Inspector General, Lexten Kachama who rushed in, to the scene.

Secrecy

Dausi, him of ambiguous and imprecise English-lingo fame, advised the country’s top cop to keep the news of his house’s invasion as a secret because “it is a national embarrassment.”

“Bwana Dausi made it clear to the Inspector General (Kachama) that he doesn’t want the news of the burglary to leak to the public dbecause it would be a national scandal. The Inspector General is investigating the case himself with his few trusted aides,” said the source.

Kachama has ordered the Malawi Police Public Relations Office to stay mum on the matter if asked by the media.

Malawi Police national publicist Nicholas Gondwa could not comment.

“At the moment the matter is being treated with secrecy. Dausi doesn’t want anybody to know that his house, which is one of the most secured residences in the country, has been burgled into. It is a total discomfiture to Dausi and a massive embarrassment to the state security.

“If robbers can invade into the house of the Chief of National Intelligence then I doubt the ordinary people are safe,” wondered the source who is himself a secret agent.

Nyasa Times also learnt that among the  items stolen from Dausi’s official residence include Dausi’s personal treasured items such as white shirts which like Kamuzu he kept them in a trunk and was fond of them.

Ex- MYP operative,  Dausi, a shrewed politician who served the fallen Malawian tyrant Dr. Hastings Ngwazi Kamuzu Banda before being appointed the country’s chief spy lost his seat as a Member Parliament during the last general election. He also served as publicist and Vice President of the MCP.

He dumped MCP and joined DPP and former president Bingu wa Mutharika appointed him as Deputy Minister for Presidential Affairs in 2010. In 2014 the incumbent, Peter Mutharika handed him the country’s ‘chief gossiper’ as a reward for his loyalty to him.

Not surprised at all, the likes of Dausi’s are making more enemies day by day even within the DPP family. These are just some of the fruits & more yet to come.Out of all the 17 million of us, it is unbelievable that Dausi is Head of Intelligence Agency, his head is empty. There are so many professionals around with relevant military or police training and experience who could have been doing a better job in the interest of Malawi as a whole. This professor Peter Muthalika makes poor decisions big time, he should get out of State House in 2019, he is… Read more »

There is more than meets the eye in the burglary story. The facts are incomplete; and the story (as reported) has many unfilled gaps.

How can a highly pretected house be burglarized to a point of valuables being taken? A attempted buglary would be understandable; but not a successful one.

What happened to the alarm system? Maybe watchmen? the watchdogs? Where was Mr.Dausi during the buglary? Nobody in the house was alerted about the breaking in until after the thieves had left the scene of the crime?

All this sounds unconvincing to me!

If this is true. This is one of the reasons why Dausi should be fired. If he is playing start your own fire in order to divert public attention, then this is state agents gone too low. You don’t play dirt jobs at your place of residence, you have family and it’s dangerous.
