Tigers can beat the odds and win Malawi TNM Super League – Alufandika

Azam Tigers technical director Robin Alufandika believed his club can claim the TNM Super League title against the odds.

Alufaddika in an interview with Nyasa Times, insists his side are now title contenders, saying they have the belief and nerve to maintain a title campaign.

The Kau-Kau boys dislodged Mighty Be Forward Wanderers on the second position on Sunday following their 4-0 victory against Epac FC.

They are five points behind the leaders, Big Bullets.

The immediate target remains a top-five finish, but Alufandika is embracing the growing expectations.

“ We know that if we have got the fortune to stay clear of injury and whatnot, I would put our team up against anyone. I would never give up the fight. Of course, the challenge is to get to position one . Once you can do that, it is all about seeing if you can go beyond that.

“It’s a long way to go, but you can see it’s an open lLeague so the team that can make the least amount of mistakes and continue to evolve can hopefully win out at the end, ” he said.

Tigers squad is not blessed with players with experience of competing for the title, and most of those who were around when the club last qualified for the Standard Bank Cup finals   have gone.

For instance, they lost Isaac Kaliati, Malumbo Gondwe and Stanely Sanudi to Wanderers, while Boston Kabango joined Epac FC.

Alufandika says he will lean on his experience managing Tigers to deal with the pressure over the remaining months of the season.

“In terms of the message the manager transmits to the squad, I’ve always tried to be optimistic,” he said. “We work hard on that, and the consequence of that are the results on the field, and gaining confidence.

“It’s about staying calm – that is important as we go into the second round. I think it is important you maintain your standards.

“Success in one game or winning one game isn’t the thing, you want it to be continual. “

Tigers, meanwhile, have intensified their search of goalkeeper, midfielder and striker in the second round in their quest to win the title.

Robin, please get this striker from Chilumba, Karonga…call his father’s number 0881 367 120 to convince him. His name is Festus. You will all be smiles to the top. I challenge he is capable to singlehandedly take you there. Other clubs have failed but knowing you, you can convince and tame him.
