‘Treat mothers well to progress in development’: First Couple’s message on Mothers Day

State House has issued  a statement of President  Peter Mutharika calling upon Malawians to always treat well and reflect on how women have been treated in the country.

Presidential Press Secretary Mgeme Kalirani  issued a Mothers Day message to the nation on behalf  of President Mutharika.

The day was commemorated on Saturday 15th October 2016 but the public holiday will be on Monday 17th since the day fall on a weekend.

In the message of the President, it  said women neeed to be treated well at all times for every society to advance in developmental activities.

“The first couple reminds us that a society that treats its women well is sure to progress in a meaningful inclusive long-term development,”reads the statement released by the State House signed by Kalirani.

It further reveals that president Mutharika and his government has been taking women issues seriously as reflected in policies and programs his government is championing.

In the just ended week, Mutharika appointed Jane Ansah as new Chairperson for the electoral body the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) replacing Justice Maxon Mbendera who died after collapsing in August this year following a heated meeting in Lilongwe.

He also appointed two women Dolothy de Gabrielle and Ruth Chinangwa as High Court Judges bringing the number of judges to 25 in the country.

Why press secretary? The first lady would have done it. May be something somewhere is wrong indeed, lets wait as things are getting unfolding.
