UN ranks Malawi not a happiest country
Index of global well-being sees Malawi ranked 132 out of 157 countries , according to the fourth World Happiness Report, released on Wednesday.
The report found that inequality was strongly associated with unhappiness .
The report was prepared by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network, an international panel of social scientists that includes economists, psychologists and public health experts convened by the United Nations secretary general, Ban Ki-moon.
The report takes into account GDP per capita, life expectancy, social support and freedom to make life choices as indicators of happiness.
“People are happier living in societies where there is less inequality of happiness. They also find that happiness inequality has increased significantly (comparing 2012-2015 to 2005-2011) in most countries, in almost all global regions, and for the population of the world as a whole,” the report said.
University of Malawi’s Chancellor College economics professor Ben Kalua said it no suprise that the index has ranked Malawi not so happy a nation because of “so many adverse things” happening in the country.
Kalua cited mob justice on suspected thieves, witches and social-economic problems bedevilling the nation.
Denmark takes the top spot as the happiest country in the world, displacing Switzerland.

The report is as good as the indicators. The problem is with quantifying issues that are inherently quantitative. Happiness has various definitions from one social system to the other. Different things constitute happiness. Apa a UN and a Kalua mwabwita……
Though the report has come out that way based on your cliteria but to us we are happy in and you saw are faces smiling. we will do better
For 53 years Malawi is a sad nation. This bad. Shame. All leaders in Malawi must walk their heads down. They are not helping.

Herewith a better perspective regarding the 2016 Happiness Index (Note the higher the “score”, the more unhappy the people of that country.
