Veterans on target in week 23 of Malawi TNM Super League

Veterans storm week 23 of the TNM Super League by registering their names on score sheet to the surprise of many as the tough is now getting going with 10 games to the finish line.

Game winner: Esau Kanyenda

The veterans were on scoring sheets in Blantyre, Balaka and Lilongwe as their teams are fighting for top honours.

Top of the bill for the weekend is Mighty Be Forward Wanderers lethal weapon,  Essau “Black Mamba” Kanyenda who netted thrice in two games for his team.

The first game he scored but his team lost but he left many puzzled as how he curved the ball the the far corner of the Silver Striker’s net.

Come Sunday, Kanyenda single handedly bite the flying Eagle twice for him to claim a brace for the day and his second goal was a brilliantly volley that left Eagles keeper, John Soko wanting.

The former flames hitman and of 2010 class, Kanyenda is proving his critics wrong as he has scored six goals so far.

He is a leading scorer among Wanderers strikers but Kanyenda was non committal to fight for the golden boot award.  He is scoring in every game he has featured in recent league games.

At  Bakala stadium on Saturday,  Civil Sporting midfielder and  captain,  Joseph ‘Dudu’ was on target from the spot kick when his team beating Red Lions.

He has increased his goal tally to seven just five short to the lead.

In Blantyre, another veteran of the game and of 2010 class, Chiukepo Msowoya scored from a penalty when his team massacred Blantyre United 4-0 at Chilomoni stadium.

He has four goals to his credit and last season was second to golden boot winner Richard Mbulu who had 19 goals while him was short with three.

Kachule leads the veterans with seven goals so far and there are still 10 more goals to wind up the league.

The other veterans the likes of Fisher ‘Anong’a’ Kondowe and Jimmy Zakazaka missed out on the score chart .

Kondowe was a delight to watch last week when he played in Lilongwe despite not scoring he showcased his ability that he is able though age is a hindrance.

Silver  Striker centre forward Mathews Sibale is leading the score chart with 12 goals though he was shown a red card.

Mphatso Philimon is second with 10 goals but as of late it looks like is scoring boots have expired and has two hat tricks to his name.

Over 161 games have been played  with 354 goals acored, 120 of them have been wins and defeats while 41 have been draws.

Civil Sporting has proved to be clinical at goal with 32 goals, Nyasa Big Bullets have a solid defence only allowing six goals, Wanderers have amassed more points 47 while Silver Strikers remains unbeaten in 20 games but highest number of draw to nine and Chitipa United have let in 42 goals into their net.

The battle for the title remains in the three horse race and the last 10 games will decided the 2017 champion.

Who among the veterans will be crowned king among his peers?
