Wa Jeffrey gets State security: CEDEP ask DPP’s SG to apologise for proposing violence but Mphepo says ‘go to hell’
In what could be called preferential treatment by the state and abuse of public resources, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Secretary General, Jeffrey wa Jeffrey, is under police protection amidst concerns of her safety for her hate speeches.
Malawi Police sources have told Nyasa Times that Wa Jeffrey has been allocated a police bodyguard and all her trips have police escorts using state vehicles.
National Police spokesman James Kadadzera described the situation as normal, saying the law enforces provide secueity “to everyone uner security threat.”
But the security threat that Wa Jeffrey is facing has not been disclosed.
Human rights and governance campaigners have described the development as a abuse of State resources.
Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) national coordinator Martin Chiphwanya said the move to prove State security to foul mouthed Wa Jeffrey “raises so many questions.”
Mzuzu-based Youth and Society (YAS) executive director Charles Kajoloweka said it is “an abuse” to accord Wa Jeffrey State security when she is not appearing anywhere on the list of government officials and diplomats entitled to have close protections.
However, DPP administrative secretary Francis Mphepo said those condemning the move should “go and rot in hell.”
Meanwhile, Center for Development of People (CEDEP), has condemened the onduct of Wa Jeffrey following her careless talk proposing violence that DPP Cadets should stone politician Sidik Mia and social commentator Micheal ‘Manganya’ Usi.
“ Her behavior to say the least is barbaric and leaves a lot to be desired in a democratic society,” Cedep executive director Gift Trapence said in a statement made available to Nyasa Times.
CEDEP said it is disappointed with what the DPP Secretary General said recently at a rally at Chonde in Mulanje South West Constituency when she ordered the DPP cadets to stone Ussi as well as SMia if they happen to come to the area .
According to her no opposition politician is supposed to make rallies in the area which she believes is the home for the DPP.
Further than this, it is the same person who declared that the Northern Region will never produce a President for this nation at yet another political rally a couple of months ago in the North.
“As CEDEP, we wish to remind Greselder Jeffrey that political tolerance is one of the cardinal principles of democracy. Infact, this is what Malawians voted for during the referendum in 1992 .A democracy cannot operate without multiparty. Unforunately, the Secretary General does not seem to understand basic issues like these and is bent on taking Malawi back to the era of one party system,” Cedep statement reads.
The organisation remided Wa Jeffrey her that Malawo belongs to all of its citizens regardless of places of origin and tribes
“. As such, careless remarks like the one made in the Northern Region that it will never produce a President for this great republic are out of order and have no place in this democratic dispensation of ours. The remarks made in Mulanje are also tantamount to criminal charges of inciting violence and we are surprised that the police have not arrested her,” Trapence said.
Cedep sadi Wa Jeffrey’s lack opf decorum is “a disgrace of colossal magnitude” that all this is happening in the leadership of President Peter Mutharika who in 2014 during campaign period promised clean based politics and leadership once elected into power.
“Our demand as CEDEP is the immediate withdrawal of the remarks and unconditional apology to all Malawians,” said Cedep.
The organisation asked President Mutharika to “be careful” with people whom he appoints into senior party positions.
“ We need people with a sense of maturity and decorum. We need people whose integrity is beyond reproach and not just noisy bumble bees,” said the statement.

Santana ndi kape. I think he is one of DPP cadets kkkkkkkkkkkk. DPP party is a party of uncivilized people. Thats why they are always preaching about violence on political platforms.
As they say an empty tin makes a lot of noise. How this person can be SG for a big party like DPP leaves me scratching my head. And even sadder is the fact that someone would try to justify or excuse this kind of insensitive uncalled rhetoric in a democratic dispensation. Her behavior is deplorable in civilized society. Then again its Malawi right.
‘Santana’ is actually a misspelling of Satana! Whoever this idiot is must be a good arse licker of his pay masters. Out of all the well-meaning comments I have read, only that of SATANA finds no problem in the DPP’s hate speeches, shame on you! One day your real name and ‘occupation’ will be known. Would you support the idea that no DPP rallies should be held in non-DPP strongholds and that any one trying to do so should be stoned? This is clearly dividing the country. Malawians should remember that Peter Mutharika also said opposition members should not be… Read more »
