Waiting upon the Lord
Waiting upon the Lord can transform us into a people of growing faith. The word wait means to hope, to anticipate and to trust. This requires faith, patience, humility, meekness, long-suffering, keeping the commandments, and enduring to the end. Many times as human beings we have felt that God has let us down because He does not provide an immediate answer to a prayer. Waiting upon God has proven to build a relationship and dependency upon God.
The Bible talks about the story of Joseph who was sold into Egypt by his brothers where he ended up in prison. While in prison, Joseph was able to interpret the butler and baker’s dreams.
We see Joseph making a request to the butler “But think on me when it shall be well with you, and show kindness, I pray you unto me, and make mention of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house”.Genesis 40:14.
But the Bible tells us that the butler went and forgot all about Joseph until two years had passed. I strongly believe that if God had moved and allowed Joseph to be out just after the butler’s release, glory would have gone to the butler. Even though the butler had forgotten about Joseph, God did not forget about him. This is the same with us too, everyone else may forget but we should continue waiting upon the Lord, because when His time comes He will show up.
Look at the story of Lazarus who was sick and despite his sisters sending unto Jesus saying “Lord behold, he whom you love is sick” John 11:4. We notice that Jesus did not show up immediately but after he was in the grave four days already. One would ask why did Jesus wait that long yet verse 4 tells us that He loved him. This is the same with us because the same one who wept at the grave of Lazarus weeps for us. His tears represent His sympathy to us as our savior and High Priest and when His time comes He will show up.
“The Bible tells us ‘to wait upon the Lord: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart: wait, I say, on the Lord’ Psalms 27:14. This encourages us that it is fine to wait and in the process God will strengthen and give us peace. When the time of God comes, we will say this is our God; we trusted in Him, and he saved us and let us be glad in His salvation.
