Wanderers club now in orange colours: Nigerian on trials

After securing sponsorship from Japanese second hand car dealers, Be Forward Company, Mighty Wanderers football club has rebranded its club house at Lali Lubani road in Blantyre from the traditional blue and white colour to orange, white and black colours of their official sponsors.

Wanderers general secretary, Mike Butao told Nyasa Times that the painting of the club house is one way of marketing their sponsor to all people who come to the club house to appreciate the Japanese company.

“We have painted the club house with green colour before during the time Carlsberg were sponsoring us together with Big Bullets, was green our traditional colour or Bullets colour? So it can’t be an issue now
that we have just painted the colours of our official sponsor, Be Forward,” Butao said.

He also disclosed that the president of Be Forward is expected to be in the country with his team to officially seal the deal which was announced last year in December.

Nigerian player

Meanwhile, the team has invited a Nigerian football player Olashipe James Tolulope for one-month trials.

The 22-year-old, who played for South Africa Premier Soccer League outfit Chippa United in 2011 and claims to have earned Nigeria Under-20 national team call-ups then, has joined the Nomads as a free agent following the expiry of his contract with Nigerian Premier League side Ibadan FC.

During his first training session Tolulope, whose air-ticket was bought by his father mesmerized supporters who came to watch the training with his skills and he dribbles and set some crispy passes to his team mates.

“I am happy to be here ohh and I hope Wanderers will like my services,” said a natural left-footer.
Coach Elia Kananja has described, rash during his first training sessions as a rare gem as he is good and he does not doubt that the team is going to sign him.

“He is a fantastic player,” said Kananji.

Wanderers’ chairperson George Chamangwana said the Nigerian player “will be like any player fighting for a place in Wanderers.”

There are now 36 players in trials at Wanderers and the squad will be trimmed to 25 players in three weeks.

Honestly speaking NOMA Ganizani bwino, our football has not yet reached commercial Level, we are still developing in football, and you are ropping in a player to occupy a place that you would otherwise develop a Malawian Player……..retrogressive thinking indeed.
