The highly contested encounter attracted a large crowd, with Simba supporters travelling in significant numbers from Tanzania to rally behind their team.

Both sides created opportunities throughout the match, producing an entertaining contest for the fans in attendance.

After a goalless first half, Simba finally broke the deadlock through Anicet Oura. The forward capitalised on a defensive error, pouncing after a Wanderers defender failed to clear the ball, allowing Simba to take the lead.

The goal gave the visitors greater confidence as they settled into their tactical approach and looked to protect their advantage.

Mighty Wanderers responded by increasing the pressure in search of an equaliser. The Malawian side made attacking changes, bringing on Sama Thierry and Promise Kamwendo for Muhammad Sulumba and Mphatso Kamanga in an attempt to strengthen the attack.

Despite the changes and sustained pressure from Wanderers, Simba’s defence remained well organised and managed to withstand the late challenge, preserving the scoreline until the final whistle.

The result gives Simba an important advantage heading into the second leg, but the tie remains open, with Wanderers needing to overturn the deficit.

The two teams are scheduled to meet again in the return leg in Tanzania on 11 September, with the winner of the two-legged tie advancing to the next stage of the CAF Champions League preliminary rounds.
