Wanderers statement of intent, draw maximum points in LL: Malawi TNM Super League

Mighty Be Forward, Nyerere drew maximum points from central region as they routed Mafco FC 3-0 in an exciting TNM Super League match played before a good crowd at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe on Sunday, June 18, 2017.

This was just 24 hours after the Nomads had collected vital three points from Chitowe Stadium, where they edged Dwangwa United through a Peter Wadabwa late strike.

The result against Mafco saw the Nomads maintain a 100 percent record in their opening four fixtures of the season that has seen the star-studded side collecting 12 points out of 12 to join Red Lions at the top of the TNM Super League log table.

Defender Lucy Malata opened the score sheet at Civo, when he headed in a corner kick by Joseph Kamwendo.

Mafco had a chance to level the scores midway into the first half but Ranken Mwale’s header from a cross crashed against the base of the cross bar before Saidi Mtekama missed the rebound.

The Nomads were two up ten minutes to the break- courtesy of a Kamwendo close range strike.

Evergreen Yamikani Chester was the architect of the goalkeeper as he took on Mafco defenders in a solo effort before the pall to Precious Msosa, who, in-turn set Kamwendo for the goal.

There was some tension shortly before the break as players from both camps exchanged words after Chester and his captain Francis Mlimbika had been assaulted by Mafco players in off-ball incidents.

Both sides made changes in the second half with Mafco executing a double substitution of Zasha Mnong’onezya and Tonny Mbulu, who paved way for Lawrence Mwehiwa and Benard Harawa.

Wanderers brought in Peter Wadabwa, Mike Kaziputa and youthful Julius Kajembe for Precious Msosa, Kamwendo and Felix Zulu.

Mafco’s dreams of a come back were shattered on 57 minutes when Chester’s strike from outside the 18-yard box was deflected into the net by one of their defenders.

That was the last nail on the soldiers coffin.

Mafco coach Temwa Msuku gracefully accepted the defeat after the game, saying the better team won.

“It was a good game but I must accept the better team won. Wanderers played well but we did not do well in all aspects. We even aided the opponents score one of the goals,” said Msuku.

His counterpart Yasin Osman expressed happiness with the result but pointed out the journey was still on.

“I am happy we have won against a big and strong side but we don’t have to get carried away by the result because the league has just started,” said Osman.

As the Nomads conquered the centre, it was all sorrow in the camp of their rivals Nyasa Big Bullets, who only managed a single point from the centre as they held 1990-19940 by new comers Masters Security in Dedza.

On Saturday, Bullets lost 1-0 at Blue Eagles.
