Zim giants Caps eye Zambezi Challenge Cup in Malawi
Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League side Caps United say they are targeting to defend the Zambezi cup tournament which they won last year in Malawi as part of their pre-season preparations.
Caps United chief executive Joe Makuvire says the Harare giants would travel to Malawi towards the end of next month for an invitational tournament involving Malawian teams.
“We are set to travel to Malawi for an invitational tournament involving four teams.
“We will get finer details about the tournament in the next week. It is part of our preparations for the new season,” said Makuvire.
Teams which were involved last year were Caps United, Big Bullets, Silver Strikers and Mighty Wanderers.
Malawi’s Ishmael Thindwa who was undergoing trials with Caps United then dented Mighty Wanderers record of being new cup winning specialists after scoring the decisive goal in a 1-0 victory in the pre-season Zambezi Challenge Cup final played at Kamuzu Stadium.
The former Epac United FC was CAPS’ talisman as his 36th minute goal was the only nail needed to crucify his fellow countrymen.
He was eventually signed by the Harare giants and will be part of the squad that will make the trip to Malawi.
Caps United who now have new English coach Mark Harrison have stepped up their preseason preparations as they are conducting trials with a number of players to beef up their squad.
Harrison however, is still in South Africa preparing to relocate to Zimbabwe but will be in charge by the time they leave for Malawi.–newzimbabwe.com
