Zimbabwean boxer dates Tanzanian in Malawi on Sunday

Zimbabwean boxer based in Malawi Brian Mwando will fight an eight round non-title welterweight fight against Tanzanian boxer Roy Mbunda on Sunday to be held at Blantyre Youth.

The Zimbabwean boxer, who is married to Malawi’s women’s boxing queen Agnes Mtimaukanena, secured the sponsorship to fight against the Tanzanian.

Everest Trucking, Kanjedza Lodge and Zagaf Transport Workshop Manager Imtiaz Latif have pledged to support the fight which has been budgeted for K500,000.

Mwando, opted to fight Mbunda after his attempt for a rematch against Malawi’s Alick Mwenda flopped.

Mwenda defeated the Zimbabwean on split decision two months ago in a controversial bout.

Mwando hailed the companies who have sponsored him.

“I am excited with the response which sponsors have given me. I don’t
take it lightly that sponsors are supporting me when others have no sponsorship. I want to perform better to impress my sponsors,” Mwando said.

He said he was still eager to fight Mwenda in a rematch.
