Kazako’s sentiments have also been echoed by the Minister of Education, Emmanuel Fabiano.

The Zodiak boss has since hailed the direction his company has taken by partnering with National Spell Masters, making ZBS radio and television official broadcasters of Spelling Bee competition.

He described the Spelling Bee competition as one of the initiatives ZBS has adopted to help improve the country’s education standards.

”Malawi needs educated people. It is our wish to contribute to the quality of education in Malawi. It’s disappointing that the standards of education have gone down,” lamented Kazako.

The media mogul cited several factors contributing to the dwindling education standards, which include not well-trained teachers and salary delays among others.

”Uneducated nation is a recipe for bad future; the future belongs to the youth, it is therefore important to educat this generation”.

ZBS, according to Kazako, is planning of taking the Spelling Bee competition to all rural areas, adding the programme will help to encourage young people take education seriously.

And Minister of Education, Emmanuel Fabiano while concurring with Kazako, hailed the competition as one of the initiatives to help promote reading culture among the youth.

”This programme will contribute to the growth of education in this country. Young people will be inspired to read more, which in end improve the reading culture,” said Fabiano.

Spelling Bee Competition fourth Season is expected to to start once school holiday is over with ZBS to broadcast the programme.

If Malawi has arguments such of the chipipha Khaneliwa who has written his trash in Caps lock, then we have a wrong way to go.So what has low standards to do with Tumbukas? You think blaming Tumbukas for your own dullness will improve your situation?Embrace the spirit of hardworking like Tumbukas and you will the situation than just waiting for useless quota to push you.Hating Tumbukas for no proper reasons will not improve your situation.

Gospel Kazakh is not telling us the gospel truth because the issue of our education system being despicable goes back a long way. A genuine and practical example I could give is about himself the time when he was hosting the presidential debate last year. His English was very bad that I begun doubting if he was indeed a boss looking after a broadcasting house. Has Gospel graduated through the current education system, if not why has he not spoken the Queens language as it were? If we talk about the graduates from our universities you at times wonder if… Read more »

Chichewa is indeed a natinal language for the Chewas. For non Chewa peoples, it is the language of an oppressor. The MCP regime imposed its Aryan Chewa with impunity over other non chewa people who suffered misery for 31 years. The use of one language has been a major contributor to the low educational standards in Malawi. So do not take us backward again with your oppressor’s dialect.

Education standards were compromised by the Muluzi regime which “liberalised” education as well. Government allowed schools to operate next to bottle stores or along the main roads as if they were shops. Private schools are allowed to operate freely in residential areas of Ndirande, Chinamwali, Zingwangwa, Area 25, Soche East, Zolozolo, Mbayani etc. This never used to be the case in the past where schools like Chaminade, Robert Laws, Kongwe, Dedza, Mtendere, Box 2, even those in cities/towns such as Blantyre or HHI Secondary Schools or Bwaila, Mary Mount, but had all the requirements to prepare young minds for education… Read more »
