The Foundation’s Chairperson for Malawi Office, Gaffar Jakhura said the assistance will reach out to 10,000 families that have been rendered homeless due to heavy rains and hailstorm.

Jakhura told journalists at news conference in Blantyre that the assistance will be for southern region districts only as they were heavily damaged by the floods.

“I was shocked after hearing reports that our brothers and Sisters in some parts of the country especially in Chikwawa, Nsanje, Zomba and Mangochi have lost their lives while several displaced by floods,” said Jakhura

Latest figure indicate that 176 people have been confirmed dead in Shire  valley alone with thousands households displaced by floods.

Malawi President Peter Mutharika declared state of national disaster in all the areas affected by the floods.
