Mwayi Kumwenda out of Malawi Queens’s squad
Malawi’s only professional netballer Mwayi ‘Professor’ Kumwenda has said she will not join the national netball team training camp as she is going to South Africa for an operation on her ailing tooth.
Netball Association of Malawi on Tuesday released a 15-member squad scheduled to go into camp on Thursday in readiness of World Fast Five Series to be held in New Zealand early next month.
The Tactix evergreen shooter was on the call-up list to start camping with the rest of the locally based players.
However, Kumwenda told Nyasa Times on Tuesday afternoon that she has excused herself for the trip.
“I have a problem on my ailing tooth and the time these girls will be going in camp l will be away in South Africa for an operation,” said Kumwenda.
The former Diamonds player said she could have loved to be part of the squad for the Fast Five Series, but insisted she has to go to seek for medical help.
“I wish my friends all the best as they prepare the games in New Zealand, and it is ad that l will not be part of the squad to travel to New Zealand,” she said.
The squad, which is comprised of four players from Diamonds and Tigresses, has some key players missing like Beatrice Mpinganjira, Joana Kachilika and Joyce Mvula.
However, there are still vastly experienced players like Sindi Simutowe, Tower vinkhumbo, Caroline Ngwira, Tina Kamzati, Bridget Kumwenda and Cecilia Mtukule.
NOTE: For a player to play better, must be in good health. I have no problem with Mwai seeking medical attention. Was she paid to do this? NO NO NO!! I believe every Queens player has love for their country MALAWI.
She is proud about who she is….let her shine

Mwawi has the rights to choose where to get medication for her problem. She could even have gone to Syria. With adequate resources one can buy a two passenger plane. If cabinet ministers rush to RSA for malaria treatment why not her doing the same. Ukamwalira ndalama timadzitsiya. Dyelathu dollar ya pa AUST.
After reading your comments, I have seen that, in most malawians there is no love but egocentric. Little by little malawi is moving away being a warm heart of africa, but a hot heart of africa.
MWAI adapatsidwa ndalama ndi dziko la south africa.secondly ndi mkwiwo oti beatrice mzake has bn dropd, all sh z tlng us r all lies mose muja dzinolo silimawawa pumbwa iweti ukhale ku australia konko usadzabwereso.mind u ukadzikweza mulungu amakutsitsa
seccessation and federalism!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The main issue is that NAM has failed to pay these girls their dues for sometime and she is trying to put sense into NAM. Some date back to 2010. She is not going anywhere near South Africa. Infact she is fighting for her friends too. As high-profile figure, she has to do this. Let the girls get their money.
Inu walandila makobili ndi bungwe la netball lakuno ku RSA kuti Malawi isachite bwino mumpikisano umenewu ndicholinga choti Malawi ichoke mu top 5, instead timu yakuno RSA ya Netball ifike mu top 5
Chaboza iwe, Ukulota kapena ukusuta? Chitsiru eti !!!!!!!
Tooth operation in South Africa? Wow! Dr. Chimimba could have done it for cheap in Blantyre. Anyway you got the bucks and probably a top range medical insurance plan. I would do the same if I was in your bracket.
Our Queens will do well without her so let her go.
