Tay Grin scoops Star Award in Beffta UK 2016: Dedicates to Malawians

Nyau music rapper Limbani Kalilani, better known by his stage name Tay Grin has won the ‘Star Award’  in the Black Entertainment, Film, Fashion, Television, Arts and Sports Awards (BEFFTA) UK.

The celebrated rapper attended the first day of the Europe’s biggest award ceremony for black and ethnic minority, BEFFTA Awards UK  when it staged its 8th edition but could not pick his gong.

He left for Malawi on the second day where he was announced winner in absentia for the ‘Star Award’ in the music category.

“So when I just touched down in Lilongwe on Saturday I arrived to some amazing news. Even though I wasn’t able ti attend the second day of the BEFFTA Awards in the UK. I was informed that I won the Star Award in the music category,” Tay Grin posted on his Instragam page on Monday

The event took place on 27th and 28th of October at the Rock Tower in London and was attended by a host of stars from UK, Europe, USA, Asia and Africa. Over 4000 guests were present in total over the two days.

“I want to thank the Lord for giving me the talent and drive to push through all the hurdles  life throws at me, my mum, family and close friends for their unwavering support, my fans for always believing in me and always standing by me through all these years,” he wrote.

The rapper added: “ Malawi stand up we have another one.”

Tay Grin says he dedicate the ‘Star Award’ to Malawians.

The Black Entertainment, Film, Fashion, Television, Arts and Sports Awards (BEFFTA, aimed at honouring the best entertainment , showbiz, leadership and sports personalities in the UK and across the globe is still making history 8 years on by being the first of its kind ceremony that brings together diverse talent and the movers and shakers of the black and Asian community in large numbers under one roof.

Tay Grin had nominations in two categories s – Best International Male African Act and Best Music Video for the song Chipapapa ft 2Baba.

In 2014 he won the Beffta Best International African Act winner.

Tay Grin has been putting in work this year, making collaborations every given opportunity. He has put out three songs this year featuring Nigerian heavyweights 2Baba and Orezi, as well as Malawi and Zambian favourites, Sonyezo and Roberto, respectively.
