Tight TNM Super League resumes, with mouth-watering fixtures

After  months-long break from top-flight football, the Malawi TNM Super League finally kicks off again with mouth-watering matches on the cards – including a Tigers and Max Bullets Blantyre  derby.

Azam Tigers will take on rookies Max Bullets  in an intriguing clash at the Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday. It may not be as significant as when old timers Tigers meet  Super League debutants Max Bullets but it promises to be a captivating encounter between the two sides.

Both sides will be eager to kick-off the 2016 season on a higher note, but 90 minutes will separate men from boys.

Azam Tigers coach Gerald Phiri said his charges are ready for the battle having won all their pre-season matches and the latest being their 2-1 victory against Red Lions.

“We are ready and despite losing four of our key players to other team’s l can assure you that Tigers will breathe fire come Sunday,” said Phiri.

Max Bullets coach Patrick Kulemeka also insisted that they are eager for Sunday’s game and described  his squad to be very good.

“We will go into the field of play with an aim of collecting maximum points,” said Kulemeka.

In another mouth watering fixture, on Sunday will be between giants Silver Strikers and Mighty Be Forward Wanderers at the Silver Stadium.

The Nomads are likely to take an attacking approach to the game but this might leave them exposed to the bankers counter attacks.

Veteran striker Jimmy Zakazaka and Peter Wadabwa were an inspiration behind Wanderers success in their pre-season matches against Mafco and Red Lions and they will need all their trickery against the bankers, who have assembled a young squad.

The Nomads midfielder Rafiq Mussa is another player to watch as  has dictated the play for the Nomads  all season and if the opposition allows him to move freely as he always likes to do then the Blantyre based out-fit  might stand little chance of winning the tie.

Wanderers coach Jack Chamangwana  said  his boys have trained hard and they are ready for the league.

“We started training way back and we are now doing everything we can to keep the boys fit and geared up for the game.

“With the return of a bulk of experienced players like Zakazaka, Wadabwa, Foster  and the massive support behind us, I think it will stir everyone in the team to win the  match”, Chamangwana  said.

Silver Strikers coach Lovemore Fazil is optimistic as his counterpart for good results.

“The boys have been training very well and the team spirit is high, so we will just go into the match in search of a victory,” Fazil said.

In other weekend action, Nyasa Big Bullets goes up against Moyale Barracks at the Kamuzu Stadium followed by Kamuzu Barracks versus Civo United at the Civo Stadium.
