Fisherman murdered on Lake Chilwa: Albino girl abduction foiled
Malawi Police Service at Nayuchi in Machinga are keeping in custody 25 year old Usuman Bizwick for allegedly killing 35 year old Meya Walusa on Lake Chilwa after the two picked a quarrel over trivial matters.
Police have confirmed the death, saying medical examination at Nayuchi Health Center indicated that Meya died due to severe loss of blood.
The two were fishermen on the Cholera infested Lake Chilwa, according to Machinga Police Public Relations Officer, Constable Davie Sulumba.
According to the publicist, another fisherman, Haroon Abdul reported the issue to Nayuchi Police after he saw Bizwick in his own boat chasing Walusa who was also riding his.
The debate as to who between the two had more cash than the other arose and degenerated into a quarrel which resulted into a bloody scene.
Walusa was shouting for help and upon following the chase it was discovered that he was bleeding and had sustained a deep cut on his neck, according to police statement recorded from Abdul who witnessed the chase while seating on a floating hut (Chimbowela ) in lake Chilwa.
“Bizwick is expected to answer murder charges contrary to section 209 of the Penal Code,” Sulumba said.
Both Bizwick and Walusa come from Mphonde Village, Sub-Traditional Authority Mchinguza in the district.
Authorities in Machinga were about to set ablaze the floating huts on the Lake Chilwa after Cholera outbreak was reported.
The decision was however reversed.
Albino abduction foiled
Meanwhile, in the same district of Machina, an abduction of a nine year old girl with albinism was foiled as police arrested a 24 year old man who offered half a million kwacha to the girl’s brother to facilitate the move.
Police spokesman Sulumba confirmed the arrest of Mandela Paipi of Nachuma village, Traditional Authority Nkoola in the district.
The publicist said the suspect will answer a charge of ‘conduct likely to cause breach of peace’.
He said Paipi approached the nine year old girl’s brother to facilitate the abduction by offering to share with him K500,000.
The brother tipped his mother of the abduction plot and the mother in tiunr informed the members of community policing who then apprehended Paipi and handed him to Ntaja police.
The recent case of abduction of people with albinism was that of a boy from Dedza whose father connived with men in Machinga to cross over into Mozambique through a border at Nyambi in the district.
The police arrested the boy’s father and the case is still in the high court at Zomba.
