Chiukepo inspires Nyasa BB win against Epac: Malawi TNM Super League
Nyasa Big Bullets responded to their last week’s 2-2 draw against Mafco FC in Dwangwa and earned some relief from their title defence campaign with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Epac FC at Kamuzu Stadium in the TNM Super League match played on Saturday.
Chiukepo Msowoya opened the scoring on 23rd minute, after being put through by Dalitso Sailesi to slot home through a header.
Unstoppable Msowoya was at it again, when scored his fifth goal this season after connecting a Yamikani Fodya’s well curved cross to ensure victory for the struggling Malawi champions.
The result leaves the Peoples Team six points behind leaders Blue Eagles.
It was the second win in five league matches for Bullets, who dominated the game.
In contrast, Epac failed to test their opponents properly and had just two shots on target as their striking force was blunt.
Saturday’s encounter was a must-win match for Coach Franco Ndawa after being given two games to win or be fired.
The Peoples Team also responded to last week’s disappointments with a positive performance and earned maximum points in front of a packed stadium.
They were brilliant on the midfield where Mike Nowata was brimming with confidence in attack and had the most passes of any of his team-mates.
He linked well with Dalitso Sailesi and showed composure and strength to hold off the challenge of Epac midfielders.
Coach Ndawa made two changes after half time, bringing on Dave Ng’ambi for Henry Kabichi and Mussa Manyenje. The former Epac pint-sized striker came in for Muhammad Sulumba.
The change failed to tick, as Epac looked more compact in the second half, but they rarely threatened a comeback.
Bullets team manager Rahim Ishmael, said “It was a very significant win for them and a mental test.”
Epac Coach Audrey Makonyola said they were second best.
“I thought Bullets had more bite and intensity. It was so disappointing, the contrast in
performance from our last game. It is difficult to explain. We never got a platform into the game, we were ineffective, we had second thoughts in every action and Bullets were, in every single aspect of the performance, better than us.”
Makonyola bemoaned the abscence of defender Justine Kamanga.
“We greatly missed his services in the defence,” he said.
Bullets have now moved to fourth position with nine points while Epac has dropped to seventh with six points from five games.
Meanwhile, the game grossed K7, 295.540.00 and teams shared K1,389,505.55.
