RVG starts off with Malawi defeat in Madagascar
New Malawi head coach Ronny van Geneugden started off his first competitive match and the 2018 Championship of African Nations (Chan) campaign with a defeat against Madagascar at Mahamusa Municipal Stadium in the Indian Ocean island nation’s capital Anatananarivo.
The Belgian mentor who had a first game against Kenya in a friendly midweek ending in a draw, saw his charges losing 0-1 the Barea of Madagascar.
He expressed disappointment the result but stressed that there would be no quick fixes to the Flames woes.
The second leg is slated for a week later during the weekend of April 28-30.
The winner between the two teams will face Mozambique’s Mambas in July.
Should the Flames beat go past both Madagascar and Mozambique they will face winners between Mauritius/Seychelles and Angola’s Negras Palancas in the final round.
Chan is a tournament specifically for local-based players which was introduced by CAF as one way of promoting local talent.

The problem of Malawi National team are beyond the coach issue only. They are structural in nature as the entire FAM and crew have a role to play in the present set up. As the coach has rightly said there are talented players in Malawi so the question remains what is the matter?we can all answer this question. Honestly it pains to be always at a loosing end.
