PDM committee defects to People’s Party

PDM defectors to PP

The entire Mzuzu district committee of the beleaguered Peoples’ Development Movement (PDM) led by Bulukutu Chirwa has resigned and joined Peoples’ Party of State Vice President Joyce Banda.

Chirwa said their move to PP is an indication that the party is advocating sound policies.

He said he had no doubt that come 2014, PP will be in government.

“In fact we have started campaigning in all areas in the district so that all votes should be for Madam Banda,” Chirwa said.

But PDM Spokesperson Musenga Mulungu told Nyasa Times that the people who have defected were nonentities in PDM.

“Just analyse the whole group and you will see that none has even a JCE certificate. Those people do not understand the ideals and ideology of PDM. In fact it is good riddance,” Mulungu said.

Former PDM Secretary General Harry Mkandawire ditched the party in December 2011 and joined Peoples’ Party (PP).

Announcing his resignation at a PP rally at Mzimba Boma, Mkandawire said PDM had no chance to unseat DPP in 2014.

Mkandawire, who helped found PDM, was a major benefactor to the party’s coffers particularly during the Rumphi Central bye elections which Aford won.
