Zomba City Council to extend boundaries to create more area for development
In order to create more space for business and manufacturing facilities, Zomba City Council has revealed that it will soon start the process of extending its boundaries.
This was revealed by the city’s Public Relations Officer, Mercy Chaluma in an interview, sayingthe council decided to extend the city boundaries to create space for manufacturing companies to build their facilities.
“The extension of our city boundaries has been made possible after a proposal we submitted to Public Service Reforms to extend the city boundaries was successful,” she explained.
Chaluma said the council would extend its boundaries to 7 Miles through Zomba-Limbe road and Songani through Zomba-Liwonde road to create more area for other developments as is the case with other cities.
The Publicist added that the council was hopeful that the move would encourage more investors to the city hence making the city more relevant for the whole eastern region.
“The coming in of investors will boost the economy of the city through businesses and jobs that will be created, which will in turn improve the living standards of people in the region,” added Chaluma.
However, Chaluma did not indicate when implementation of this process will start as she rushed in to say they were waiting to be guided by authorities.
The Malawi’s old capital city is known to be the home to one of the country’s most scenic mountains which at 2,000 metres above sea-level, offers stunning views of the old colonial Capital town and beyond.
In addition to that, she said the city was quiet and had reliable water sources, conducive to manufacturing companies which had been applying to establish their companies in the district.
