Red Lions set to turn around misfortunes as they date Mafco, Dwangwa

Red Lions Football Club will hope to turn a corner and get back to showcase their early impressive form displayed in the better part of the first round of the 2017-18 soccer season in the ongoing elite TNM Super League which has reached a critical stage.

Mike Kumanga: Red Lions coach says both games crucial

The Zomba based soldiers invade Central Region where they will make a date against Mafco FC on Saturday before facing Dwangwa United 24 hours later with both games played at the never easy to go place Chitowe Stadium.

They are currently on position 13 with 20 points accumulated from 19 games played at this far.

Red Lions Head Coach Mike Kumanga said everything is set to collect maximum six points this weekend.

“We are very much prepared to face Dwangwa United and our brothers Mafco FC. As you are aware we haven’t been doing well in the second round but this is the time for us to wake up and pull up our socks and start winning,” said Kumanga on Friday.

“Our aim is to win and collect maximum six points or else, let the worst be a draw and a win ao that we return home with four points in the bag,” he added.

According to Kumanga, his troops are aware of the importance of this weekend’s two encounters.

“The boys already know that once we slip this weekend, it will be very bad and disaster for us and we can drop to the relegation zone so we hope they will fight hard to win. Our bosses gave them a motivational talk this week so we look forward to nothing but positives,” Kumanga said.

The soldiers have only managed a single win in the second round with the rest being draws and loses.

Their latest latest defeat was a 1-0 loss against Civil Sporting Club last weekend.

In other league games, Azam Tigers should also expect another tough weekend as they also head to the Central Region where they will face 4th placed Civil on Sunday before wrapping up their tour against second place and one of the hottest title contenders Silver Strikers on Monday.

Tigers Technical Director Robin ‘Abambo’ Alufandika knows how crucial the two assignments are.

“We will be playing away against two giants and we know we have a huge task ahead of us but we will try to do well. We drew against both teams in the first round and this time around, it will be fire works again,” said Alufandika.

Tigers are coming from two draws against Blantyre United and Mzuni FC.

“We are coming from two draws yes but the se are not easy teams to beat at this stage because they are running away from the relegation fire,” said Alufandika.
