Mutharika tells UNGA he won credible polls: Blames MCP for Malawi turmoil

Malawian President Peter Mutharika on Thursday addressed the annual gathering of world leaders for the United Nations General Assembly and said he won his second and final constitutional five-year term of office through a  process that was duly audited by a UN affiliated  network but accused opposition leaders’ campaign to annul the May elections on getting more angry people on the streets with violence.

President Mutharika takes local politics to UN General Assembly

Like all other world leaders, who discussed their country’s progress and priorities, with some giving a particular emphasis on climate change,  Mutharika  also tacked how his administration is doing on national development framework  before he discussed local politics most of part of his speech.

He used his address to the United Nations to discuss the Malawi situation on the political front.

Mutharika told the UNGA that  he was  re-elected   in the electoral process that was duly audited by a United Nations affiliated network called BDO.

Said Mutharika: “This election was unanimously  declared free, fair and credible by the European Union, the African Union, SADC [Southern African Development Community]  and the Commonwealth observer missions.

“But the Opposition, led by Malawi Congress Party decided not to accept this very credible Election. This is the party that ruled Malawi under dictatorship for 31 years.”

Malawians went to the polls on Tuesday to elect 193 members of parliament, 462 local government councillors and the President. But MCP president Lazarus Chakwera and  UTM Party president Saulos Chilima are in court seeking  nullification of the presidential elections results claiming irregularities.

President Mutharika is the first respondent in the elections case as declared winner with Malawi Electoral Commission  (MEC) as the second respondent.

But in his address at the world stage, Mutharika, a professor in international law and constitutional expert, said the opposition went to court but ignored the court process and claimed that they waged “ a vicious campaign of violence” in the disguise of demonstrations.

“Their violence betrayed a desire for ethnic cleansing, a desire for civil war, an attempt to demolish the economy and to make Malawi an ungovernable state of lawlessness.

“We responded with peaceful resistance and insisted on the rule of law. We fought violence with peace; and fought hate with love. This is what saved Malawi from degenerating into chaos. We have seen democracy and the rule of law at its best in Malawi,” said Mutharika.

The President said Malawi remains a peaceful and stable country that we have always known. Malawi remains a beautiful destiny for tourists and investors.

  2. MUTHALIKA,don’t be a fool and do not think that Malawians are fools like you rotten rat- eater.Your behaviour made Masauko Chipembere astonished at your unbecoming behaviours hence,he did not trust you guile. You are the worst President Malawians, have ever had since independence some 50 plus ago and the behaviours shown by your Lomwe fuckups, explains who are LOMWES?However, even though the Chewas were somehow proud of their barbaric Hastings Banda, still they were behaving. As human beings and not the fuckup rat- eaters. You and your late brother Bingu, have shawn very bad characters that the international people give Malawi zero-plus.Muthalika you are a shaming us in diaspora just as when Banda was in power.MATHANYULA,YOU WILL GO TO HELL BUT THE PEOPLE OF MALAWi,WILL GO TO HEAVEN.Muthalika, you are just a fool!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Shame on.you APM and you’re evil, God will punish you.with.your lies. Tell them the truth that you never won the elections. It is Chakwera who.won and that the case is in court. Until when shall you keep lying …shame

  4. kkkkkkk look and read the facial expression waiting for an applaude guess dint happen. kudikila kucongedwa plo apa nde anthu samavapo kanthu. kupanda mano , kukula speech imasolobana.kkkkk

  5. ..”truth hurt fools.” APM with or without speaking about this at UN the world knows who is causing problems in Malawi and as a matter of fact MCP sizawinanso ku Malawi pakati pompo,no need even to mention them..aMalawi ndikuwaziwa ine sanayikhululukile/sazayikhululukila MCP apapa ndi ma demo wa ango nyula worse! Let them!

  6. Speech of a clueless and tipexed president, if you know you won why being afraid of re run coz the same people will surely vote for you. Remove Jane and put some one and lets see if you can win without tipex mr profffesor of international law

    1. Rerun is a language of losers dude,,, why should we waste time? who and how many and from where voted for Chakwera?

  7. One thing that Malawians should know is that soon the courts will rule that APM won the elections, not because he won, but on the basis of the lesser evil: to have a re-run or to have APM continue?. Judges have already made up their minds on this case and they think it is better to continue with the status quo. Take note of what I have said today, for it will soon come to pass. Bad for our democracy.

    1. He did not go to court, the stupid loosers did. APM is only defending his status at winner of the elections.

  8. I request that the advisors and those drafting his speeches should do a better job than reporting such issues in this kind of forum. He should have done better to dwell at the issue at hand “Climate Change”.

  9. Alot of noise when away from home. This acting president will be quiet and holed up at Sanjika when he returns home. This song of EU, AU, SADC, USA an Commonwealth endorsing the election is as boring as his speaking. The assertion that the above mentioned bodies approved the election is in total conflict with the UNDP (which he has conveniently left out) sponsored Audit Report which says Jane Ansah doctored the election results.

By the way he keeps refering to protests as MCP led. Wrong. The protests are led by the HRDC for the the over 60% Malawians whose votes were stolen. Can’t this man get this into his head? APM keeps bringing MCP into his accusations because the party’s leader, Chakwera, is far too smart for him since he is the greatest threat to his plundering kingdom. Note that UTM and MCP only support the demonstrations which, as we witnessed a day ago, have always been highjacked by the so-called cadets just to paint HRDC a bad picture.

Thanks acting president for deciding to come home early so that you can witness the butchering of your stadium budget allocation.

  10. Did he also indicate that most tally sheets were tippexed and auditors refused to sign tippexed sheets? Alamu mwakalamba pumani taonani chinkhope chaocho. Too old to make any sound decisions.

  11. anamufusa ndani? defusing the doubt, njengunje kkkkkkkk.
    nthumazi imaphatu .

ku UNGA kuli topic ya climate change osati kukadziyeletsa galu iwe. you think we are idiots that we are not reading or watching whats is happening at the UNGA????
    IDIOT
    WE ARE FOLLOWING IT ALL.
DONT MAKE MALAWIANS LOOK FOOLS .
    MXIIIIII

  12. Mmmm u are abig liar mr mntharika ,When did court come to conclusion that u are winner? Why didn’t u tell them u won through tippex.

  13. You’re not a legitimate president Mr APM but a fraudulent leader living in denial. It’s extremely disturbing for so called constitutional lawyer living in deception.

    1. I wish somebody was hearing themselves akamayankhula. So he is a fraudulent “leader”. Whatever description you give him, he is still your “leader” kkkkkkk, I like it

      1. Nope he’s your leader not ours henceforth the majority of us didn’t vote for him. The swap your apart of lacks conviction for suffering Malawians & some happens to be your relations in the rural settings. One must introspect integrity over money. Truly why gain the whole world & lose your soul in the end.

  14. Akuluakulu, MALAWI IS A SORRY NATION ESPECIALLY TO HAVE THIS 80 YEAR OLD SO CALLED PRESIDENT. AM ONLY 53, BUT FEEL TIRED, NDE 80 YEARS!?

  15. The Prof of Nepotism is a coward. He lost the election. We sensible Malawian knows this. Soon we will have a rerun whether he wants it or not. This is an illegal government.

  16. AMalawi u have a very big problem. This was a very gd speech I must say and providing an insight of how the country is and how his government responded to the attacks by UTM and MCP under the umbrella of HRDC. This man is a true democratic and mind u, if it were one of those two, whoever was doing the demos, wud have been mmadzi. Viva APM and viva DPP and viva Malawi, our peaceful country.

  17. This is democracy you can false people to rule on them if they do not want you in the country. You have been entering capital city on military tanks else ukanagendedwa.

  18. You did not mention anyone else but MCP because you rob the party victory and this will be turned down by our courts and shame on you is looming. The matter is in court and wait for your fate. Your MEC failed to produce BDO report in court three times Kaphale giving excuse to the court in the face of 5 panel judges a report your MEC CHAIR used to announce results shame. That report will kill you down in the drain.

  19. Let’s be honest folks, the majority of the few delegates present in the chamber during his speech didn’t know what this old man was talking about. Firstly, they don’t know him nor where he comes from. Apart from a few African countries that know Malawi, not many others do, apart from those that we go begging from.

  20. Why blame MCP you want MCP to remain quiet yet you were fraudulently declared winner. Lets meet in court do not cry at UNGA no president came to witness your inauguration after leaders learnt that you colluded with MEC. Ulila nyekhwe uwona.

    1. These are just domestic issues. Why bring these issues at UNGA? Nthawi zina kumakula abale…Nkhani zakuchipinda mpaka kutulutsa paja eti?

  21. So why are you telling the nation that you won when the matter is before the constitutional court? You should have also told the UN that the electoral body used tippex and fake results sheets/ballot papers.

    1. Do you know use of tipex or you don’t know?the elections was free and fair .APM Sakunama koma nyau zikuwona ngati zingalamulire dziko ,ADAD osabwera kaye tithidzimule kaye nyau izi.amadalira inu poti mumawapatsa chitetezo.
