Central Region Football Committee wants chairman Ajawa out

The six suspended members of the Central Region Football Committee (CRFC) have demanded an immediate resignation of chairman Austin Ajawa, claiming he is a politician as he holds a position of an executive member in the United Democratic Front (UDF) political party.

This was disclosed at a news briefing held at the Lilongwe Community Centre Ground on Sunday afternoon.

The members were suspended a week ago by the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) accusing them of inciting violence at the December 17th FAM General Elections at the Livingstonia Beach Hotel in Salima and for dragging the body  to a criminal court against the rules and regulations of governing soccer.

Ajawa (CRFC Chair)- under fire

Leader of the suspended members, George Mussa, who was serving as Deputy Chair, said Ajawa is bringing a lot of confusion into the game of football in the central region.

Mussa says the laws of football do not allow anyone active in politics to hold any senior position in the soccer administration hence Ajawa is the active  member of UDF.

“Ajawa always has politics running in his head and for example during the 2010-2011 presidential cup he never watched any game including the finals simply because the cup is sponsored by President Bingu wa Mutharika who belongs to Democratic Progressive Party (DPP). Things don’t go that way in football” charged Mussa.

“We as soccer administrators seek sponsorship from companies, business men, politicians so it is not good to bring politics into the game of football,” added Mussa.

Mussa said as long as he is concerned, he remains the deputy chairman of the CRFL and the positions of the so called suspended members remains intact.

The suspended members are also accusing FAM for making a decision without consulting and carrying out concrete investigation to find the major cause of the problems hovering around central region soccer administration.

Mussa and colleagues ruled that the December 17th Election were not free and fair because a lot of irregularities occurred including allowing some people who were not supposed to vote cast their votes.

Ajawa refused to comment anything on the matter, saying he would respond when he gets the full contents of what was alleged at the news conference.

The suspended members also unveiled the K6 million football competition sponsored by ruling DPP presidential candidate Peter Arthur Mutharika, which is called  Arthur Mutharika.

According to Mussa the competition will be played in ten districts.
