Mutharika appoints 3 new High Court judges: Jabber, Texious and Kamowa
President Peter Mutharika has appointed three new High Court judges in exercise of powers confered upon him by Section 111 (2) of the constitution of the Republic of Malawi.
Private practice lawyer and Football Association of Malawi Vice President Jabber Alide has been appointed to the bar as judge.
Alide’s profile on LinkedIn indicates that he has been working as a legal director at Malawi Millennium Development Trust.
He is described as an “experienced legal director with a demonstrated history of working in the legal services industry.”
Zomba Chief Resident Magistrate Texious Masoamphambe has been elevated to High Court judge.
Mutharika has also increased number of female judges by appointing Industrial Relations Court (IRC) chairperson Chimwemwe Kamowa as High Court judge.
According to a statement seen by Nyasa Times from the Office of the President and Cabinet, the appointments are with immediate effect.

In terms of s111(2) of the Constitution of the Republic all other judges shall be appointed by the president on the recommendation of the Judicial Services Commission…can someone with info from a reliable source in the judiciary confirm please. We dont want a temporary president exercising powers for his personal benefit.

We have had a good judiciary when it was headed by Justices Banda, Unyolo, Munlo, Makuta and Msosa. The current head has brought it to disrepute. Doesn’t he read the judgements for his inputs before each judge has effected them?
I am sure these new judges will teach the Hi5 judges on how to administer JUSTICE. I mean the JUSTICE which does not see the tribe, the region or the political affiliation of the person.
