Govt hires 3 State House press officers, Brian Banda in

Government has hired three State House press officers for a work that can be done by one person.

The three State House press officers are Ruth Govati, Brian Banda who used to host Straight Talk programme on Capital FM Radio and Tusekere Mwanyongo from  Nyasa Times – congratulations from Editorial!

State House chief of staff Ben Mbewe could not comment in the appointments but social media in Malawi have carried the reports of the new posts for the three and a debate has ensured on what their tasks will be.

“Does the country need three press officers? What will they be doing? The country has run before with only one State House press officer,” said one contributor.

Said another: “Brian will be responsible for the print and electronic media. What does that mean? Is this not just a way of wasting government money by creating more positions which are unnecessary? Does the president need all those press officers? Let’s wait and see what happens.”

Another writer said it will be a waste of tax payer’s money to have three State House officers on top of press secretary Steve Nhlane.

But others school of thoughts said this will help to improve the flow of information between State House and the media.
