Inkosi Gomani V installed in a colourful ceremony:Pictorial
In a colourful coronation ceremony on Sunday, 17 year old Mswati William Kanjedza was installed Inkosi Gomani V of Ntcheu on Sunday
The son to late Inkosi Ya Makosi Gomani 4, schoolboy Mswati Gomani was given the throne at the event graced by Malawi President Mrs Joyce Banda, prominent politicians from the governing party and the opposition at his headquarters, Nzamani Village in Lizulu, Ntcheu.
Inkosi Ya Makosi Gomani is the paramount chief for all Ngoni people from the central region district of Ntcheu in Malawi.
Paramount Chief Gomani IV died in 2009 after he was installed in 2008 when he had retired as a lieutenant colonel in the Malawi Defence Forces.
President Banda advised the new Paramount Chief to be a role model for the youth and maintain the role of chiefs “to take custody of culture.”
The Malawi Head of State said: “A country without chiefs is same like a tree without roots.”
Banda – unlike her predecessor late Bingu wa Mutharika who was favouring his tribe Lomwe – said she will pioneer an annual national cultural festival, where Malawians from all cultural dimensions will be coming together to celebrate their cultural and tradition brands.
Apart from Leader of the Opposition John Tembo, other opposition politicians who attended the function included DPP Secretary General Wakuda Kamanga, DPP top official Hetherwick Ntaba, former Speaker Sam Mpasu ( a proud Ngoni) and PPM president Mark Katsonga .
