Lawyer arrested for K20m deceased’s estate funds, Vuwa’s sons on the run

A government lawyer working in the Administrator General department has been arrested over a K20 million fraud involving deceased estate funds, Nyasa Times understands.

Festus Sakanda is being held at Lumbadzi Police Station in the outskirts of Lilongwe City, according to Police sources.

But Sakanda, according to sources , was not working alone in the scam. His accomplices are two sons of former cabinet minister Symon Vuwa Kaunda who are on the run.

“The main player was Sakanda, who would let three others to cash the cheques,” said the police source familiar with the investigations on the matter.

Vuwa: Sons implicated

“The other two are Symon Vuwa Kaunda’s sons, David Shenko Kaunda and Symon Vuwa Kaunda Junior who are now on the run,” said the source.

“A female cashier Eustina Lungu told the police she gave K1.1million to Vuwa Kaunda Jnr. Police searched Vuwa Kaunda’s house but didn’t find the sons. It is believed that they are in hiding in Nkhata Bay,” added the source.

Apparently, lawyer Sakanda is a brother-in-law to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Bruno Kalemba.

According to the Auditor General’s report, huge sums of money had been misappropriated.
