Man held for kidnapping boy, 9 to initiation camp

Police in Thyolo have arrested 18 -year- old Enock Uledi for allegedly kidnapping a 9- year- old boy of Njaiti Village in Traditional Authority Nanseta in Thyolo.

Confirming the incident) Thyolo Police Publicist, Edith Likaka said that on the night between Tuesday and Wednesday, the suspect went to the house of Usita Malombe at around 02:00, where he allegedly abducted the child and eventually dumped him at an initiation camp.

“He broke into the house through the window and took away Miss Malombe’s son (name withheld) and dumped him at an initiation camp near their village.

“When the mother woke up in the night, she noticed that the window was broken and started searching around the house thinking that a thief had broken into it. Surprisingly, none of her property had been stolen, but her first born son, was missing.

“She rushed to her father and informed him about the incident,” said Likaka.

She added, “The father informed village head Njaiti who ordered for a search around the village.

“The boy was found at the initiation camp and when he was asked, he told the people that Enock Uledi had taken him to the camp without his consent. Immediately the boy was withdrawn from the initiation camp.”

Enock Uledi comes from Njaiti Village in the area of Sub T/A Nanseta in Thyolo and he is expected to appear in court soon to answer charges of kidnapping contrary to Section 260 of the Penal Code.
