DPP urges Mzimba people to vote for its candidates in by-elections
The opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has stepped up its campaign in the forthcoming Mzimba Parliamentary by elections, asking people to vote for its candidates during October 9 polling.
DPP northern regional governor, Christopher Mzomera Ngwira MP, urged the electorate in Mzimba Central Constituency to vote for DPP candidate Owen Mkandawire in the October 9 by-elections to replace Professor Donton Mkandawire who died last December.
And party treasurer general Henry Mussa drummed up support for Ronald Chavula who will contest on DPP ticket in Mzimba South West Constituency. The constituency fell vacant following the appointment of Khumbo Kachali as the country’s Vice-President.
“The people of Mzimba should vote for DPP candidates to enhance democracy,” Ngwira urged.
He accused the ruling People’s Party (PP) led government for being “failurers” and that most of its “recycled members” have run out of ideas.
Ngwira said PP has nothing new to offer the people of Mzimba “other than donating stolen beds.”
“ I call upon the people of Mzimba to vote for democracy and vote DPP and have more opposition MPs in parliament to offer checksand balances to PP government,” he said.
On his campaign trail, Mussa challenged the current administration to state which development ideas they have initiated.
Mussa accused the PP-government of failing to manage the economy, saying people should turn to DPP candidates in both Mzimba Central and Mzimba South West constituencies.
Meanwhile, Electoral Commissioner Bernard Malango, a retired Anglican Archbishop, disclosed on Monday during a live debate by all contestants at Edingeni TDC that there are 300 new voters registered during the just concluded registration for the bye-elections, meaning there are 34 816 eligible voters in the constituency.
