Weekend derbies in TNM League: Nomads face Bullets as Silver date Civo

The battle of points in the seventh week of the elite TNM Super League enters into a fierce battle over the weekend, as the capital city and commercial city of Malawi host derbies involving arch-rivals.

On Saturday all eyes will focus in the capital city, where Silver Strikers takes on Civo United in a Lilongwe derby at the Silver Stadium.

The Capital Hill boys have improved tremendously this season following their draw against Big Bullets before beating Mighty Wanderers 1-0.

Coach Oscar Kaunda is aware that any victory against the Bankers on Saturday will see his side moving to a better position.

Some of the notable names, which the Civil Service boys are banking on set area-47 on fire, are Captain John ‘Kintu’ Lanjesi, left back Emmanuel ‘Siyeni’ Zoya, Noel ‘Amfumu’ Mkandawire and Lawrence ‘Teacher’ Mwehiwa.

However, Civo is aware that it has taken them months now to clip Silver Strikers in area 47.

The last time the two teams met in area 47, it was the Bankers, who collected maximum point over their opponents.

Twenty-four hours later, the attention will be shifted from the capital city to the commercial city, where Big Bullets hosts Mighty Wanderers in a Blantyre derby.

The Peoples Team were frustrated last Sunday after a 1-1 draw with Chikwawa United, while the Nomads are still licking the Lilongwe wounds where they were clobbered by Blue Eagles and Civo United.

Big Bullets coach Elijah Kananji, who showed his frustrations after the Chikwawa match will be banking his hopes on the likes of Dalitso Sailesi, Mussa Manyenje, Henry ‘Magetsi’ Kabichi and Bashir Maunde to send Biafra stand on cloud nine.

At the Lali-Lubani Boys, Coach Gerald Phiri is aware that any slip-up against their rivals will be a bitter pill to swallow.

Men to make the Nomads stand to sing, ‘Olire Manoma, Olire Manoma’ will be the likes of Mike ‘Maloud’ Kaziputa, Innocent Dzimbiri, Bongani Kaipa and Captain Francis ‘MF 7’ Mlimbika.

In other matches on Saturday, Airborne Rangers hosts limping Blantyre United at the Chitowe Stadium, while Chikwawa United has a home ground advantage against Red Lions at Kalulu Stadium.

In Mzuzu, Moyale Barracks takes on Karonga United at the Mzuzu Stadium.

Come Sunday, Mafco FC will play Blantyre United at the Chitowe Stadium, as Epac FC takes on Kamuzu Barracks at the Civo Stadium, while in area 30, Blue Eagles will rock horns with Silver Strikers at Nankhaka Stadium.
